An M25 motorist got the shock of their lives when a runaway wheel smashed the front of their car after it had come loose from a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
The wheel, which came off a van travelling anti-clockwise near junction 22 at St Albans hit a Vauxhall Zafira and caused both carriageways of the motorway to be closed for a short time.
Officers said one person received minor injuries and the van was currently undergoing inspection to work out how the wheel came loose.
