Image released over the weekend show the damage that can be done if sunglasses are left on the dashboard

Fire service issues warning after sunglasses set car on fire

Shocking images released by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue show just what can happen if sunglasses are left in the line of the blazing sun.

In the incident that happened over Bank Holiday weekend, the sunglasses had been left on the dashboard and pictures show damage to the steering wheel and a hole in the windscreen after a fire broke out.

Steven Keates, the Met Office's deputy chief forecaster said: "There is as strong signal the high-pressure will continue to dominate our weather (during half-term).

"Its exact position over the UK will dictate the temperature, wind direction and weather patterns, however, indications are that the dry, bright weather is likely to continue for most with little in the way of rain throughout next week."
