Yes... once again the Ford Focus has won an award. This time it is the 'Best Lower Medium Car' title from Fleet News Awards. To be honest... this family favourite is a worthy winner. The handling is exceptional - after all - it also looks superb, has an excellent ride, and numerous magnificent toys. In fact, this family workhorse can steer itself into parallel parking bays, brake automatically to avoid collisions, and monitor its driver for fatigue. It feels more like the starship Enterprise than a low cost family car. I bet Captain Kirk loves it.

Fleet News Editor, Stephen Briers, revealed: “It (the Ford Focus Mk3) has low running costs, is great to look at and drive and is backed by excellent support from the manufacturer and its retailers.” Mr Briers added: “The Focus also brings premium technology to the mass market by offering relevant safety innovations at an affordable price."

The Focus has also been named 'Best in Class' by Euro NCAP - the independent body that assesses vehicle safety. This workhorse – which is available in five-door hatchback and estate guises - scored a mighty 92% for adult occupant protection. Furthermore, it earned 82% for child occupant protection, 72% for pedestrians, and 71% for safety assist systems. These include its electronic stability programme and torque vectoring control systems, which keep the Focus pointing in the right direction. Does Kirk's ship have those?
