The newest Ford eco model is the Ford Mondeo ECOnetic. It is a two litre diesel and is capable of 53 mpg with co2 emissions below 140g/km. The benefits of the low rolling resistance tyres fitted to the Mondeo ECOnetic obviously help the car achieve its modest fuel consumption but they grip less effectively than standard tyres, increasing braking distances and acting as a blemish on the Mondeo’s otherwise highly polished driving experience.
The Ford Mondeo ECOnetic is an attractive car, the interior is extremely roomy ensuring five adults able to travel in comfort it has all the executive levels of equipment including sat nav, air conditioning, electric seats and top of the range radio/CD system. The slick steering, the weighting of the pedals and gearchange are reminiscent of Lexus rather than Ford. The Ford Mondeo ECOnetic glides down the road but you can feel the suspension doing its thing and the set-up is taut enough to really reward spirited driving.
An eco arrow which constantly flashes green to tell you when to change gear keeps you thinking of the pounds that you will save at the pumps. The Ford Mondeo ECOnetic is a lot of car for the money and its fuel consumption will save you plenty of money. Prices start at £20,795 on the road.
