Jaguar’s radical new electric grand tourer arrives in 2026 with 1,000hp, 400-mile range, and plans for a future SUV. Here’s what you need to know.

Jaguar Type 00: what it is, when it’s coming and when you can buy one

Jaguar is reinventing itself, and the Jaguar Type 00 is leading the charge. After the dramatic concept reveal, Jaguar is set to launch a new generation of ultra-luxury electric cars, starting with a four-door GT.

Here’s the latest on what the Type 00 is, its performance, and when it will be available.

What is the Jaguar Type 00?

The Type 00 started as a concept car that previewed Jaguar’s future design and technology.

The production version will be a large luxury electric grand tourer, with four doors instead of the concept’s two. It will sit at the top of Jaguar’s lineup, priced well above its previous models, and is designed to compete in the luxury EV market rather than with mainstream German premium brands.

Expect a long bonnet, dramatic proportions, and minimalist surfaces, staying true to the concept’s bold design.

Performance and range

The new Jaguar GT will use a tri-motor electric setup, two motors at the rear and one at the front for all-wheel drive and torque vectoring.

Key expected specs include:

Power: around 1,000hp

Range: up to 400 miles

Handling: rear-wheel steering and air suspension

Weight distribution: 50:50 for balanced driving

Despite its size and battery weight, the Type 00 is designed to offer luxury comfort and agile handling, reflecting Jaguar’s traditional driving DNA.

When will the Type 00 be revealed?

The production Jaguar Type 00 is expected to be fully revealed in 2026, likely around mid-year. This will mark the start of Jaguar’s new electric era.

When can you buy it?

Deliveries are expected to follow the reveal, likely in late 2026 or early 2027.

Pricing is anticipated to start around £120,000, placing the car firmly in the high-end luxury EV market.

Could a Jaguar Type 00 SUV follow?

Jaguar is also expected to expand the Type 00 line with a large electric SUV, probably arriving around 2028.

It would likely share the same platform and design language as the GT, with similar performance potential, possibly close to 1,000 hp, and compete with vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne EV and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.

Why the Type 00 matters

The Type 00 is more than just a car, it’s Jaguar’s statement of intent.

The brand is shifting from a broad lineup to a low-volume, ultra-luxury EV focus, producing fewer, more exclusive vehicles. How the market responds to the bold design and high prices remains to be seen, but the Type 00 sets the tone for Jaguar’s electric future.
