The broadcaster is arguably the UK’s most prominent social cyclist as he films and uploads incidents from his rides.

Twitter’s favourite cyclist, Jeremy Vine, once again caused a social media storm last week as he uploaded a video showing a van reversing into his bike.

The van illegally turned right down a cycling lane in a pretty shocking manoeuvre - the driver clearly didn’t care too much about what was coming the other way.

Vine then repeatedly honked his horn and the driver, in somewhat of a panic, tried to undo his illegal turn by reversing into a stationary broadcaster who was now just centimetres behind the vehicle.

Understandably, Vine was bashing on the read of the van in an attempt to make him stop while a nearby lorry driver also began beeping their horn.

The bike appeared to be crushed underneath the van but in a later social media post it appears it actually escaped without damage.

For us, there can be no doubt that the driver is at fault here. There is absolutely no excuse for turning illegally the wrong way down a partially blind cycle lane, never mind ignoring Vine who was cycling – legally – into the path of where the van was turning.

It also appears that, while Vine was clearly right to be aggrieved here, there have been instances where he has seemingly been able to find trouble when incidents could’ve been easily avoided.

Let us know your thoughts.
