Meet the ’90s beast that hit 217mph – and it’s up for auction

A legendary RUF CTR 2 Sport is up for auction with a £2.5M guide price. Here’s why this ’90s icon still holds its own in 2025.

The RUF CTR 2 Sport is heading to auction at Broad Arrow’s Monterey Jet Center sale in mid-August, and if the guide price is anything to go by, most of us will just have to admire from afar. It’s expected to go for somewhere between £2.2 million and £2.5 million. Ouch.

Still, it kind of makes sense. Even though it’s nearly 30 years old, the CTR 2 Sport has a spec sheet that wouldn’t look out of place on a brand-new hypercar. Think carbon and Kevlar body panels, all-wheel drive, a six-speed manual gearbox, carbon ceramic brakes, and a 580bhp twin-turbo flat-six. It hits 0 to 62mph in just 3.6 seconds and tops out at 217mph. No big deal, just the fastest production car in the world back when it launched.

The interior? Not exactly modern, and that’s exactly why it’s so good. Green leather, analogue dials, old-school cool. We love to see it.

This exact car has just over 16,600 miles on it and recently had a full service from RUF North America. And don’t worry, it’s not the black one that was spotted dangling off a transporter on social media the other day. Close call.
