The new MG EXE181 concept pays a bold tribute to a historic land speed record holder

The 2024 Beijing International Auto Show witnessed the dazzling debut of MG's latest creation, the EXE181 electric concept supercar. This revolutionary vehicle pays homage to humanity's enduring pursuit of speed throughout the 20th century, seamlessly blending heritage with future innovation.

The EXE181 stands as a testament to MG's rich history of prioritising speed, dating back to its early triumphs on racetracks and speed records in the 1920s and 30s. The brand's influence continued through defining eras like the Roadster in the 50s and 60s and pioneering mid-rear engine roadsters in the 2000s.

Central to this narrative is the iconic "Roaring Raindrop" MG EX181, which famously achieved a record-breaking speed of 410.5 km/h in 1959. Piloted by Phil Hill, the first American F1 World Champion, this vehicle held its ground until 2014, when its record was surpassed by Bugatti. The EX181's legacy symbolises a pivotal moment in speed record history and the evolution of automotive engineering.

Fast forward to 2024, and MG's London Advanced Design Center unveils the EXE181, an electric supercar that not only pays homage to its predecessors but also represents a bold leap into the electrified frontier.

Engineered to push boundaries, the EXE181 targets a remarkable top speed of 415 km/h with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.181, demonstrating MG's commitment to redefining velocity in the electric era.

This ambitious pursuit places the EXE181 in the prestigious "Sub-1 second 0-100 km/h Club," underscoring MG's legacy of innovation and speed. With cutting-edge technology and aerodynamic prowess, this electric supercar is set to leave an indelible mark on the automotive landscape.

Following its global debut at the Beijing Auto Show, the EXE181 is poised to make waves at the renowned Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024. As MG continues to push boundaries and break records, the EXE181 represents not only a tribute to the past but also a bold step into an electrifying future where speed and innovation converge.
