Morgan has revealed the Midsummer Coupé, one of the most exclusive models in the company's 117-year history.
Unveiled on the summer solstice, the new coachbuilt sports car follows last year's Midsummer Speedster but takes exclusivity even further. While the Speedster was limited to 50 examples, production of the Midsummer Coupé will be capped at just 10 vehicles worldwide.
Each car will be hand-built at Morgan's factory in Malvern and individually commissioned, with prices expected to exceed £250,000 depending on customer specifications.
Designed With Pininfarina
The Midsummer Coupé has been created in collaboration with renowned Italian design house Pininfarina, blending Morgan's traditional styling with a more contemporary and dramatic silhouette.
Its most distinctive feature is the sweeping glasshouse roof, which gives the car a unique profile while maintaining the classic proportions that have defined Morgan models for decades.
According to Morgan, the design introduces more striking proportions and a stronger visual presence than many modern performance cars.
BMW power under the bonnet
Beneath the long bonnet sits a turbocharged 3.0-litre BMW straight-six petrol engine producing 402bhp. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The Midsummer Coupé is based on the same aluminium platform as the Morgan Supersport range, including the recently launched Supersport 400, the most powerful road-going Morgan ever produced.
Despite the addition of a fixed roof and extensive structural enhancements, the Coupé weighs only around 1,200kg – roughly the same as a Ford Fiesta. Morgan says the model is only 2.5 per cent heavier than the lightweight Supersport.
Built for grand touring
While the Midsummer Speedster focused on open-air driving, Morgan says the Coupé has been designed with long-distance touring in mind.
The fixed-roof design provides greater practicality, improved luggage space and enhanced year-round usability, while still delivering the sense of occasion expected from a bespoke Morgan.
Creating the coupé body required significant engineering changes, including billet-machined aluminium A-pillars, bonded structural glass and advanced lightweight construction techniques.
Bespoke craftsmanship throughout
The Midsummer Coupé features several design elements unique to this limited-run model.
These include polished stainless-steel lower body panels, bespoke 19-inch aluminium wheels and distinctive front wing vents inspired by the cowl flaps found on the iconic Spitfire fighter aircraft.
Morgan's Chief Design Officer, Jonathan Wells, described the project as one of the most ambitious the company has undertaken, saying it showcases the highest level of coachbuilding expertise available from the British manufacturer today.
Already one sold before launch
Morgan says the idea for the Midsummer Coupé originated from a customer request.
That customer has already secured the first build slot, leaving only nine remaining commissions available. Each of those cars will be developed in close collaboration with its owner, ensuring every example is unique.
With production limited to just 10 vehicles and demand expected to be high, Morgan believes the Midsummer Coupé will quickly become one of the most sought-after collector cars in its modern line-up.
Alongside the Midsummer models, Morgan's current range includes the Supersport and the distinctive Super 3 three-wheeler, all of which continue to be hand-built at the company's historic Malvern factory.
