Unsurprisingly the motorist didn’t have insurance and the force has requested the CPS push for a custodial sentence

Public left baffled after Staffordshire Police pull over motorist with a whopping 96 points on their licence

Staffordshire Police have released details of a driver they pulled over on Boxing Day with 96 points on their licence.

The 23-year-old Astra driver was stopped in Stoke-on-Trent after the vehicle was flagged as being uninsured.

They later discovered the driver was on the road despite being disqualified.

The motorist was given a further extension to his driving ban - meaning he is now disqualified until 2027 and the force said it would also be pushing the Crown Prosecution Service to request a custodial sentence.

When asked how a driver can accumulate that many points by one X user, the force replied: 'By just ignoring any punishment and continuing to drive, gets caught and keeps getting more and more points.'

So it’s unlikely then that this new ban will mean much…

If you get 12 or more penalty points over three years, you can be disqualified from driving for six months. The limit drops to six points for new drivers.

Motorists then face a 12-month ban if they pick up a second disqualification within three years and a two-year ban if they get a third disqualification.
