Find out the safest and least congested times for motorway driving this summer holiday

Revealed: the best and worst times to travel this summer

As summer holidays begin and people look forward to escaping the busy city life for relaxation, it's essential to plan your road trips wisely to avoid traffic jams and potential accidents.

To avoid traffic, consider traveling on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday between 8 pm and 6 am.

Fridays not only experience higher congestion than other weekdays but are also more dangerous, with a staggering 19 percent increase in accidents compared to other days - so try and avoid Fridays if you can.

On weekdays, it's best to avoid the rush hours between 6 am and 10 am and 4 pm and 8 pm, as heavy traffic during these times can cause significant delays and increase frustration on the roads.

If travelling midweek is not an option for you, opt for early Saturday mornings or after 6 pm until Sunday morning at 11 am for a smoother journey with fewer cars on the road.
