News flash! The ŠKODA Octavia won Car of the Year 2020 thanks to its ‘exceptional all-round abilities and outstanding value for money’, Auto Express judges confirmed. It therefore took the overall title – which is the most prestigious title – at the New Car Awards that has multiple categories and winners. Editor-in-Chief, Steve Fowler, summarised the vehicle. He emphasised:
‘Since it launched in the late nineties, the ŠKODA Octavia has become a byword for space, practicality, and comfort. This latest generation adds handsome looks, efficient engines, improved tech, and even a couple of hot versions into the mix. It not only represents all the car you could ever need – but it is all the car you could ever want, too. It is a very worthy winner’, Mr Fowler added.
Naturally, ŠKODA was thrilled to win the overall title and emphasised the importance of the Octavia to the company. Brand Director Rod McLeod revealed:
‘The Octavia is a very special car for us. It has built the foundations for the range we have today. The Octavia has reinvented itself in terms of design and technology over more than 2 decades and I think a big part of its appeal remains its honesty, quality, and ability to delight its owners. Thank you Auto Express for recognising what we do and why we love doing it’, Mr McLeod added.
Estate Car of the Year 2020
The ŠKODA Octavia claimed category wins in addition to its overall title. Estate Car of the Year 2020, for example. In fact, this was the fifth consecutive year it won this category. The judges praised its cavernous cargo capacity and said there is a ‘level of passenger room no rival in its class can match’. The Octavia also won plaudits for its pleasing looks, plush interior finish, and refined engines.
Editor-in-Chief, Steve Fowler, added: ‘For estate car buyers space is always a priority. There are not many family wagons that offer more room for either passengers or their luggage than the Octavia Estate. The main thing that makes this our winner for 2020 is the way it combines 640 litres of luggage room with class leading technology, comfort, performance, and efficiency’, he emphasised.
Compact Family Car of the Year 2020
The Octavia also won Compact Family Car of the Year 2020. ‘ŠKODA has a good understanding of how families use their cars and has adapted the Octavia for the modern era’, the judges noted. They specifically praised its ride quality which makes it feel ‘premium’, the driver assistance systems, infotainment features, handling, and value for money. The ŠKODA Octavia costs from £20,965.
