London is no stranger to a fancy and expensive hotel. You’ve got the Dorchester on Park Lane, the famous Ritz and Claridge’s, and now there’s a new kid on the block – The Peninsula.
It’s one of the most famous luxury hotel groups in the world, with locations such as Hong Kong, Beverly Hills and Paris. But The Peninsula is also known for another thing – its cars.
That’s because guests of the hotels can be treated in all manner of luxury vehicles, with the Peninsula’s flagship hotel in Hong Kong having a fleet of 14 Rolls-Royces, which was the largest single order the British firm had ever had for its cars.
The firm recently opened its new hotel in London, with the Belgravia hotel having its own fleet of 13 cars worth several million pounds that are there to treat its guests to glamour before they’ve even set foot through the doors. Let’s take a look at what cars it has to offer.
Rolls-Royce
While The Peninsula works with various manufacturers, its most famous partnership is with Rolls-Royce, which dates back to 1970, with all its cars always being painted in a matching Brewster Green. Across the group, it now has 30 Rolls-Royces on its fleet.
At its London hotel, there is a great mix of old and new, with a classic 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Sedanca De-Ville sitting alongside a brand-new Rolls-Royce Phantom worth about £300,000.
Bentley
Bentley has never had a partnership with The Peninsula before, but that’s changed now the group has arrived in London.
Working with Bentley’s bespoke Mulliner division, the hotel now has four examples of its new Bentayga plug-in hybrid SUV in its fleet, each worth around £200,000. Bentley has called the colour ‘Peninsula Green’ with a subtle coachline in ‘honey’. Other special touches include the hotel’s graphics on the front door, as well as the Peninsula Logo being integrated into the puddle lights along with a bespoke interior.
These plug-in hybrids can also drive around the city on electricity when charged up, with Bentley claiming an electric range of 28 miles.
London taxi
No fleet of vehicles in London would be complete without an iconic version of the London taxi, with The Peninsula having two examples as part of its collection.
Based on the modern range-extender LEVC Taxi, they are no normal examples, however, as they’ve been converted by specialists Clive Sutton, located close by in St John’s Wood. Painted in the same Peninsula Green as the Bentleys and Rolls-Royces, they also get a gold coachline and bespoke branding.
Other high-end touches made to the cabs include tan-coloured Bentley leather, motorised door closure and a large fridge designed to accommodate several bottles of champagne. The traditional bulkhead, which separates the driver from passengers, has also been opened up to allow for easier interaction.
BMW
Along with Rolls-Royce, BMW also has a long-running partnership with The Peninsula hotel group, and at the last count, it had more than 50 vehicles from the German firm across its global fleet.
This partnership also extends to London, with the hotel having an example of the firm’s new i7 on its fleet, which is the electric version of the latest 7 Series. In other locations, BMW also hires out the i8 sports car to customers so they can drive themselves around the cities.
