Huge power, remarkable off-road features, steers on your behalf – and electric. Here's all there is to know about the Hummer EV Edition 1 Supertruck

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is a ferocious, fully electric, monstrous truck that is best summarised by numbers. Words are inadequate. The provisional information this far from launch suggests it has 1,000 hp, for example. That is mighty. For comparison, the Aston Martin DB11 has 638 hp. The truck, therefore, hits 60 mph in about three seconds. The other key figures include:

  • torque – an immense 11,500 lb-ft
  • range – 350 miles per-charge - impressive for a fast truck
  • 4-wheel drive

Tremendous off-road features

The Hummer EV Edition 1 has countless features to help tackle extreme off-road terrain. UltraVision gives you up to 18 camera angles, for example. It helps you choose the best line and avoid hazards such as rocks, logs, and drops. The system includes underbody cameras that face forward and back. These cameras have a wash feature and replaceable lens protectors. Handy!

The truck also has underbody armour that protects the primary components. The battery and differential, for starters. In addition, the front and rear suspension travel is 13” and the wading depth is up to 32”. Further expect independent front and rear suspension, front e-lockers, virtual rear lockers, and heavy-duty components to further optimise the vehicle’s off-road prowess.

Super Cruise (self-steering)

The Hummer EV Edition 1 performs on tarmac, too. Super Cruise is among its features and it enables the truck to steer on your behalf. GMC released a video to demonstrate. The driver presses a button on the wheel to activate the system. He then lowers his hands. The truck then cruises up behind a slower vehicle, moves to the other lane to pass it, then wafts back to its side of the road.

Robust styling

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 has muscular exterior styling that commands respect. It is also finished in white. The Infinity Roof is another notable feature. This incorporates a series of transparent panels that enable you look up and see the stars, mountain ranges, and other terrain. The panels are tinted to deflect the sun. They can also be removed then stored in the truck.

Fashionable and practical interior

The supertruck’s interior is both stylish and practical. The two-tone seats and bronze accents look attractive, for example. However, the all-weather floor confirms the truck is ready for adventure. There is also a big screen behind the steering wheel that shows key information such as speed. It complements another screen in the centre of the dashboard which is for secondary tasks.

Availability

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 launches in autumn 2021. The specification of this top-spec trim is likely to be further confirmed closer to the time. In addition, tamer versions of the truck will be launched in 2022 (Hummer EV3X), in 2023 (Hummer EV2X), and in 2024 (EV2). No doubt their numbers will impress, too.
