Kia PV5: New Electric Van for Less Than a Diesel Ford Transit

Kia has revealed the PV5, an electric van priced at €30,000 (£25,000 before VAT), making it a more affordable alternative to a diesel Ford Transit Custom.

The PV5 is the first in Kia’s new Platform Beyond Vehicles (PBV) range, designed for flexibility and commercial use. A larger PV7 is set to follow in two years, competing with the Transit Custom and Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

Power & Range

The PV5 is built on a modified version of Kia’s EV3 platform, designed specifically for commercial vehicles. It has a front-mounted electric motor producing 161bhp and offers three battery options. The largest 71.2kWh battery delivers up to 249 miles of range, while figures for the 51.5kWh and 43.3kWh versions are yet to be confirmed. Regardless of the battery, a 10-80% fast charge takes about 30 minutes.

Variants & Features

The PV5 comes in multiple configurations, including:

  •  Cargo Van
  • Crew Cab
  •  Passenger Van
  •  Wheelchair-Accessible Version (WAV)
  •  Off-Road Edition (planned)

Kia has also partnered with conversion specialists like Westfalia to offer bespoke models, including campervans.

Inside, all models seat two upfront, while the crew cab, passenger van, and WAV add a second row with three seats. The van features 7.0-inch and 12.9-inch screens for digital instrumentation and infotainment, running on Google’s Android Automotive with access to business apps.

Cargo & Practicality

While official payload and load volume figures are yet to be announced, Kia confirms that the PV5 can easily fit a standard Euro pallet. The cargo area features a rail system on the floor and ceiling, allowing users to add or remove cabinets and seats with ease.

As part of Kia’s PBV ecosystem, the van will integrate fleet management software and other business solutions.

UK Launch & Availability

The Kia PV5 will make its UK debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham on 29 April, with deliveries expected to start in October 2025.
