AITO, a Chinese brand established by the tech behemoth Huawei and automaker Seres, is poised to disrupt the global car market, having launched the premium AITO 7, a luxury electrified vehicle, writes Tim Barnes-Clay.
The range-extended large-size comfort SUV embodies the brand philosophy of "Adding Intelligence to Auto" (which, if it isn't glaringly obvious, is what AITO stands for) through its commitment to redefining the traditional concept of luxury by embracing innovative technology, safety, and comfort.
The AITO 7 stands out with its cool design and a bunch of innovative features that reflect AITO's fundamental philosophy of "Intelligence Redefining Luxury." With its roomy two-row, five-seater interior, it has a fully integrated smart cockpit with trilingual functions to converse in English, Chinese, and Arabic, designed specifically for an international client base.
When it comes to the powertrain, the car is propelled by - as mentioned - a range-extender. The AITO 7 boasts a power output of 442hp, peak torque of 660Nm, and a 0-62 mph acceleration time of just 4.8 seconds. The vehicle offers excellent fuel economy - after a full tank of petrol and a full charge, it can apparently cover a remarkable WLTP combined range of up to 652 miles and a pure electric range of up to 100 miles. It is fitted with a 60-litre fuel tank and a 42kWh battery, providing both versatility and peace of mind on long journeys.
AITO says quality is its number one concern, and the 7 has been stringently tested in advance to take on a range of driving conditions to ensure reliability for each adventure. Along with this commitment, AITO will also introduce next-generation intelligent driving assistance technology, based on significant data accumulated from its performance in the Chinese market. Basically, it promises a safe and trouble-free drive, which is a necessity at the luxury end of the scale.
AITO's mission extends beyond this, though; the company wants to enhance customer relationships through a localised supply chain. This strategic move is intended to ensure faster delivery times and a wide after-sales service.
One of the AITO 7's best features is the Zero Gravity Seat, adjustable at the touch of a button, for ultimate comfort. There is also a gigantic panoramic sunroof and electric sunblind to further elevate the driving experience with expansive views of the sky. Furthermore, there's a camping mode that makes the interior a spacious sleeping retreat, perfect for family weekend getaways.
Other notable features, such as soft-close doors and an electric running board, reduce the risk of slamming while providing easy ingress and egress for children and older people, ensuring a stress-free motoring experience for families.
Leon He, President of Seres Auto, articulated the brand vision by stating, "AITO is committed to being a 'glocal' brand". He explained that the path to define 'new luxury' in the intelligent era is "backed by our top-notch technology and superior performance in China."
Since its release in December 2021, AITO's sales in China have surpassed 770,000 units, and the intelligent flagship SUV AITO 9 - which you can read about in another preview article here at Regit - has been the success story as the sales champion of the ¥500,000 luxury segment for 17 consecutive months. It is also rolling out the AITO 5 - a mid-size sport SUV – but more on that in our dedicated preview of it.
AITO is also completing validation tests on its intelligent driving assistance features in overseas markets to deliver an excellent mobility experience. As of late August 2025, AITO technology has racked up an astonishing 3.45 billion km cumulative assisted driving distance for 621,000 users in mainland China.
Before embarking on its global expansion strategy, AITO is establishing a UAE subsidiary to introduce the entire model range. Although the European launch of the brand is expected, the precise timing of its arrival in the United Kingdom can't be verified. Stay tuned for updates here at Regit on the AITO 7.
