The MG3 Hybrid+ marks a milestone in MG's line-up as their first full-hybrid model.

New MG3: The UK's most affordable full hybrid at £18,495

The brand-new MG3 Hybrid+ was revealed earlier in the year at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show and is now on sale starting at £18,495. This pricing is extremely competitive, undercutting key rivals in the supermini class. For instance, it's nearly £1,000 cheaper than a base-model petrol-powered Vauxhall Corsa.

The price difference is even more significant when comparing the MG3 to other hybrid superminis like the Renault Clio E-Tech and the recently updated Toyota Yaris, which start at £21,295 and £22,630 respectively. Even the top-tier MG3 Trophy model costs only £20,495.

Hybrid+ Powertrain, Performance, and Fuel Efficiency

The new MG3 features MG's first full-hybrid powertrain, similar to those in the Clio E-Tech and Yaris Hybrid. It uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, generating a combined 192bhp. The electric motor alone contributes up to 134bhp and 250Nm of torque.

The MG3 has a larger battery than most hybrid superminis at 1.83kWh, allowing for more pure-electric driving, especially in urban settings. It can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in eight seconds, outperforming the hybrid Clio, which takes 9.3 seconds. MG claims it achieves up to 64.2mpg and emits 100g/km of CO2.

You don't need to plug in the car to charge the battery; the engine and a separate generator motor handle that. The Hybrid+ system automatically selects from five power modes, with options for Eco, Standard, and Sport settings for the driver.

MG’s engineering team in Longbridge has tuned the MG3 Hybrid+’s chassis and suspension specifically for UK roads. Like all new MG models, it comes with a seven-year/80,000-mile warranty.

Prices, Trim Levels, and Equipment

The MG3 Hybrid+ comes in two trims: SE and Trophy. The SE trim includes a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, and the MG Pilot suite of driver-assistance systems.

These systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, driver attention alert, and active emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection.

For an additional £2,000, the Trophy trim enhances the base model with LED headlights, a 360-degree parking camera, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, leather-effect upholstery, keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, blind spot detection, and rear cross traffic alert.
