We never thought the day would come but the first of the big four finally cuts fuel prices, SIX MONTHS too late

Asda finally cuts price of fuel

We reported on 27th June that fuel prices should’ve fallen in line with wholesale prices and instead they increased slightly.

After almost SIX MONTHS of campaigning, we’re delighted to finally report that the first of the big four supermarkets have lowered fuel prices to a level that we would actually expect.

Asda has now reduced the cost of petrol by an average of 4.5p per litre – according to RAC data from last week.

Diesel prices across all Asda stores have also been cut by an average of 5.5p per litre.

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “While we’re pleased one major supermarket retailer has finally started heeding our calls to pass on the enormous drop in the wholesale prices of both fuels, the fact these price cuts have been made so quietly is surely an admission that they should have come much sooner.

“Asda is now charging an average of 153.5p for petrol and 176.7p for diesel which is around 2p less than its rivals. We urge the other three supermarkets to catch up quickly – or go even further – and give drivers some much-needed relief from high prices next time they fill up.

“If they do, this will bring the UK average petrol price down from its current 157.8p which benefit drivers everywhere.”

Costco already showed just how far fuel prices could be cut when they reduced their own prices last month.

Although Asda have finally bit the bullet and stopped rinsing us quite so much, the sceptics in us are saying this is simply timed to ensure they get their share of Christmas food traffic passing through their stores.

It remains to be seen when and if the other supermarkets will do the same.

Let us know what you think on this whole fiasco below.
