The controversial president took the opportunity to highlight the fact Brazilians have it much better than us at the pumps

Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro mocks UK fuel prices on funeral visit

Jair Bolsonaro opted to try and boost his chances of election with what many described as relatively cheap video but one that ultimately had substance given the price of fuel in Brazil isn’t far away from being 50% cheaper than the extortionate prices over here.

Ironically, Mr Bolsonaro found a Shell garage that was selling fuel for as low as 161.9p. I’m sure many reading this article wouldn’t mind being able to find prices as ‘low’ as that themselves…

In the video, the President stood outside a Shell garage on London's Bayswater Road, pointed at the sign and said, "practically double the average of many Brazilian states" before claiming fuel in his country was amongst the cheapest globally.

The video was posted the night before the Queen’s funeral although was criticised by many in his homeland who argued that it wasn’t a fair comparison given minimum wage in Brazil is a touch more than £200 per month.

Prices in Britain have fallen from highs of nearly £2 per litre but are still contributing massively to sky high inflation figures – the likes the UK hasn’t seen for the last 50 years or so.

Brazil's controversial president has been likened to Donald Trump for his policy on the Amazon rainforest which has seen record destruction during his time in office.

Former leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is ahead on 47% against his 31% in current polling meaning Bolsonaro is likely to be enjoying his last month in office.
