A motorist was left shocked after she returned to her car to find it submerged in the tarmac

Car swallowed by sinkhole in Coventry

Agshaniya Ramesh, from Coventry, has spoken of her shock after she returned to her car to find that it had been swallowed by a sinkhole. A burst pipe led to severe damage to the road surface that ultimately gave way overnight meaning the car was submerged in tarmac and ultimately written-off.

Many locals have accused Severn Trent, the local water company, for acting too slowly to fix the pipe and now the student paramedic is without a car and out of pocket.

The hole opened up on Sewall Highway on Monday morning after a pipe burst.

West Midlands Police said it was called out to the road just before 04:00 BST.

"Officers attended and closed the road so the car could be recovered and Severn Trent could work on the damage," a spokesman said.
