BMW’s investment in sustainability and innovation is really coming to fruition as Plug-In Hybrid buyers have been spoilt for choice with the current range of hybrids on offer. We’re currently approaching halfway through 2020 and there are 8 different plug-in hybrid models available. They all come in different shapes, sizes, prices and with differing levels of performance. Let’s have a quick run through each one...

BMW 225xe Active Tourer Plug-in Hybrid

From £36,475

225xe Active Tourer Plug-in Hybrid

The 225xe Active Tourer is a bit of a niche vehicle, as it fits into the market as a desirable MPV, bucking the modern trend of SUVs. It’s a class-leading car for an MPV though, with an extremely spacious cabin, high standard of equipment and exceptional practicality. The 225xe Plug-In hybrid model is capable of returning a combined 156.9mpg when driven to WLTP testing standards. This is currently the most affordably priced PHEV from BMW with a starting price of £36,475.

BMW 330e Saloon Plug-in Hybrid

From £37,875

BMW 330e Saloon Plug-in Hybrid

Next is the 330e saloon. It’s the plug-in version of BMWs ever-popular 3 Series, but as the name suggests, this isn’t a modest-performing 3 Series saloon, as the 3 Series uses the electric motor to help it accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 6.5 seconds while still providing a combined maximum range of 370 miles on a single tank and a full charge.

BMW 330e Touring Plug-in Hybrid

From £40,845

BMW 330e Touring Plug-in Hybrid

The 330e Touring is a similar story to the aforementioned Saloon model, only with greater road presence and a larger boot. Both of these models are able to offer up to 35 miles of electric-only driving on a single charge, which is particularly excellent for running local errands or if you have a relatively short commute.

BMW 530e Saloon Plug-in Hybrid

From £48,035

BMW 530e Saloon Plug-in Hybrid

The next step in BMW’s plug-in hybrid range is the 530e saloon. Using the 4th generation high-voltage lithium-ion battery technology, this model is also capable of returning up to 37 miles of electric-only driving when driven to match the testing standards. This model also comes with ‘Anticipatory Hybrid’ mode which uses real-time traffic information to help scale and adjust the use of stored electric power to ensure maximum efficiency from the powertrain. It’s all very smart. There is also a higher-powered 545e model coming later this year.

BMW 745e Plug-in Hybrid

From £78,465

BMW 745e Plug-in Hybrid

The new BMW 745e Plug-In Hybrid might just be one of the most serene and luxurious hybrid cars on the market today. The 7 Series uses the electric motor to glide blissfully through inner cities without touching a drop of fuel and without a single rumble from the engine. Then, when the road opens up, the electric motor is able to boost performance from the silky smooth 6 cylinder engine to ensure the car can make haste without making any fuss.

BMW X1 xDrive25e Plug-in Hybrid

From £38,200

BMW X1 xDrive25e Plug-in Hybrid

The first of the hybrid X-cars is the X1. It’s bigger than you’d expect, certainly bigger than the 1 Series, and you’ll find that this is more than practical enough for the vast majority of family duties. You’ll be surprised to know that the X1 uses a 1.5 litre 3 cylinder petrol engine, similar to the one you’d find in a MINI, but it is, of course, mated to their electric motors to generate a total of 220hp and 380Nm of torque… which is plenty!

BMW X3 xDrive30e Plug-in Hybrid

From £48,505

BMW X3 xDrive30e Plug-in Hybrid

The next hybridised-X is the X3. This model uses a similar recipe to the X1 PHEV but offers more performance, more practicality and taller ride height. The X3 PHEV is not only wonderfully economical, but it is also capable of getting from 0-60mph in just 6.2 seconds, making it a hybrid SUV that will leave a lot of hot-hatches for dust!

BMW X5 xDrive45e Plug-in Hybrid

From £64,745

BMW X5 xDrive45e Plug-in Hybrid

Last but certainly not least is the daddy of the BMW plug-in hybrid range. The X5 is already a best-in-class car, but when paired to the BMW hybrid powertrain it becomes even harder to discredit. It comes with a big spec, big grilles and even bigger performance - how does a massive 394 horsepower sound? It sounds even better when you know you can also get between 201.8 and 235.4 mpg when driven to WLTP testing standards…

All of these BMW hybrids are either on sale now or will be going on sale in the coming months. Your dealer will already be taking orders and enquiries so why not register your interested today and arrange a test drive...
