The New Ford Ranger is one big 4x4 it’s huge and boasts some class leading towing capability; it was awarded Pick-up of the Year at the What Van? Van of the Year Award 2013 and the trophy sits along nicely with the ‘International’ Pick up Award it has also won.

Ford has been chosen by the Ministry of Defence to supply over one hundred of the Ranger pick-up vehicles, to be used by the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Ministry. It will see service in a variety of roles, carrying personnel, MoD civilians and their equipment around Britain. Steve O’Leary, MoD Programme Manager, said “these Ford Rangers are all vital administrative vehicles. Some will be used by service security patrols guarding military establishments, and others will be converted for mountain rescue. The Ranger was selected as it is more than able to fulfil the required role in terms of off-road mobility and payload, and also for the value for money it offers.”

Ford Direct sales manager, Paul Henderson, said “we are extremely pleased that the MoD has placed this important order. The Ranger is perfectly suited to heavy-duty use and will prove a robust and reliable workhorse in its new career with the military.”

Three versatile cab body styles

The Ford Ranger is offered in three versatile cab body styles; Double, Super and Regular that are among the roomiest in its class.  There is a choice of two powerful and economical Duratorq TDCi diesel engines, and either two or four wheel drive. The Ranger boasts class-leading towing capability and is the first such vehicle ever to achieve a Euro NCAP five-star rating. The new Ford Ranger is priced from approximately £15,599 and is on sale now, the Ranger Limited Double Cab 2.2 TDCi has a customer saving of approximately £1084.73 if you choose Contract Hire from Ford Lease, this works out at £298.96 +VAT per month which is the equivalent of just £68.99 + VAT per week.

The MoD has chosen the Ranger XL models supplied with four wheel drive in a variety of cab configurations. The exceptional towing capability is the biggest factor but this pick up also delivers some smart technologies including Adaptive Load Control, Trailer Sway Control, Voice Control and a rear view camera system. Each vehicle will have an operational life of between five and seven years.
