The Mazda MX-5 30th anniversary edition arrives and is available to buy
Mazda is commemorating one of, if not, their greatest ever model to date in 2019 with a limited edition 30th anniversary edition. That’s right, the best-selling sports car in the world turns 30 years old in 2019. Over 1 million units of the MX5 have been built and sold since it was introduced at the Chicago Motor Show all the way back in 1989, and it is now globally renowned as one of the best handling cars ever built.
The first distinctive feature of this milestone Special Edition is the paintwork. The 30th Anniversary Edition will be sold exclusively in a striking and eye-catching ‘Racing Orange’ colour which will turn heads wherever it goes. Each model will also come with unique lightweight Rays alloy wheels which will not be made available on any other Mazda models. Buyers will also get brake callipers in Racing Orange and, for the first time in the UK, uprated Brembo brakes will hug the front discs.
The fun continues to the inside, where the interior has been plastered with stylish orange accents. The gear lever, seats, dashboard, door card, air vents, steering wheel and dashboard now all have bright orange piping to match the exterior paintwork. Then, perhaps the most attractive upgrade for the Special Edition is the heavily bolstered leather and Alcantara bucket seats which look simply magical. The Alcantara then continues onto the steering wheel and door trim. All of this is standard specification on the 30th Anniversary edition, so too is Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
Across the whole of the world there will only be 3,000 30th Anniversary Edition models of the Mazda MX-5 but, luckily, Mazda knows just how much we love them in the UK, where they have sold over 130,000 models since 1989. So, we’re lucky enough to be receiving a total of 550 – 370 convertible and 180 RF models. The Retractable Fastback RF is £29,895, while the convertible is £28,095.
All models will come fitted with the potent 184 PS 2.0 litre Sky Activ petrol engines which are proving to be hugely popular thanks to their reasonable blend of running costs and fruity performance. Buyers will also be happy to know that all models come with the uprated Bilstein dampers, a limited-slip differential, strut bracing and of course a wonderfully mechanical 6-speed manual gearbox. Top, top spec.
If this Special Edition model ticks your boxes, we’d suggest booking a test drive as soon as possible, as they will sell out very quickly. The order books are open now... So what are you waiting for?
