Average Labour Rate For Mechanics In UK

How much mechanics charge for labour varies nearly £100 per-hour between postcodes, Warrantywise says. The company – that provides insurance to cover the cost of repairs – says that the largest average variation is between Twickenham in London (£141) and Kirkwall in Scotland where the typical cost is £44 (-£97 per-hour).

Regional labour rates make interesting reading too. London is the most expensive where mechanics typically charge £101.60 per-hour. It is followed by the: South-West (£89.12), East (£88.75), South (£86), North West (£84.72), Midlands (£83.77), Wales (£77), North East (£76.33) and Scotland (£71.42). As for specific garages, 1 of the most expensive is in Surrey as it charges £240 per-hour. A business in Birmingham, in contrast, is amongst the cheapest (£36).

Warrantywise Chief Executive Officer, Lawrence Whittaker, said: “Some of the differences Warrantywise has discovered are, frankly, offensive. Our advice is simple: shop around, negotiate and remember that as a paying customer, you are holding the ace cards.”
