Jaecoo is making serious moves in the UK car market. The brand only landed here in January 2025, yet it’s already racked up 28,232 new registrations last year, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). That’s a huge win for such a new name.
Most of those sales came from the Jaecoo 7 - a stylish SUV that’s clearly hit the sweet spot with buyers. It alone accounted for 26,048 registrations, making it the fourth best-selling car in the UK since launch. To put that in perspective, Jaecoo sold more cars than Citroën and SEAT, which managed 20,732 and 23,015 new registrations in 2025.
Jaecoo’s not the only Chinese brand shaking up the scene either. BYD smashed it with 51,422 registrations in 2025, a massive jump from just 8,788 the year before, even outselling Tesla (45,513).
Omoda also made its mark with 19,855 registrations, overtaking Suzuki (18,226), while Chery, the parent company behind both Jaecoo and Omoda, shifted 5,517 cars in under four months after launching in September. That’s more than Smart and Subaru managed in the whole year combined.
As for Leapmotor, it sold 4,273 cars, nearly 3,000 more than Korean brand KGM, which only reached 1,574 registrations in 2025.
Here’s how all the Chinese brands stacked up last year, according to the SMMT:
| Chinese brand | Cars sold in the UK in 2025 |
|---|---|
| BYD | 51,422 |
| Changan | 357 |
| Chery | 5,517 |
| Geely | 478 |

| Jaecoo | 28,232 |
| Leapmotor | 4,273 |
| Omoda | 19,855 |
| Skywell | 31 |

With new names entering the UK market and outperforming some long-established players, 2026 looks set to be a fascinating year for car buyers.
