Mitsubishi has been toying with us for months, but now it has finally announced prices and specifications for the Lancer Evolution X. The rally-bred super saloon will come in three trim levels and there are three power options available, with prices starting at £27,499.
Entry point is the Evo X FQ-300 GS, which has a 290bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and Mitsubishi's Super All Wheel Control four-wheel drive. This system also incorporates clever electronics to give the car superb grip and poise when driven hard. The GS also comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, Recaro front seats, 6-disc CD stereo, privacy glass and an anti-theft tracking device.
The FQ-300 is also on offer in GSR and GSR SST trims. Satnav, upgraded stereo and a personalised set-up for the windscreen wipers, interior light delays and auto-folding door mirrors are all part of the GSR pack, while the SST provides Mitsubishi's new six-speed twin clutch gearbox. The SST gearbox does away with the clutch pedal and uses paddles shifts mounted just behind the steering wheel. Drivers can also choose between Normal, Sport and Super Sport modes for this gearbox.
Other engine power options are taken care of by the FQ-330 and FQ-360, which have engines modified to produce around 330- and 360bhp, though Mitsubishi is yet to confirm exact power outputs. These two upgrades are only available with the five-speed manual gearbox versions of the Evo X.
Mitsubishi is also reckoned to be working on an FQ-400 model of the new Evo X to take on the new Subaru Impreza WRX STI with Prodrive modifications that is rumoured to have 400bhp.
