The Motability Car Scheme is one of the easiest ways for disabled motorists to source the best value new cars. Eligible participants must receive either the higher rate mobility component of the disability living allowance, or the war pensioners' mobility supplement. The scheme offers two options, the hire purchase agreement and the more popular three year lease. These are paid for using all or part of the benefit, but the latter may also require an advance payment for expensive models.

Motorists can choose from a wide variety of vehicles under the scheme. Noteworthy leasing bargains for those claiming the mobility component include the Ford Focus which, depending on specification, is available with either no advance payment or various amounts up to £3,350. This is in addition to the total weekly value of the benefit. However, if the Focus is too large the smaller Ford Fiesta 1.25-litre Edge is listed for weekly payments of £47.10, with no advance payment.

Alternatively, those who fancy slipping into something prestigious may prefer the Audi A3. This fashionable Focus sized vehicle is available in 1.6-litre 3d specification for the total weekly value of the benefit, plus an advance payment of £499. It is also listed as a fuel efficient diesel for the higher up-front payment of £1,499. The diesel averages 27mpg more than its petrol powered sibling, so may be the more cost effective long term choice for high mileage drivers.

Those in receipt of the war pensioners' supplement may fall for the charms of the quirky Citroen C1. This is available, in 1.0-litre Splash form, for £46.94 per-week with no advance payment. If the C1 is too small the larger C3 could grace your driveway from £47.59 per-week with no advance payment whatsoever. Very nice, too.
