New Audi A6 Saloon Unveiled: 201bhp and Prices from £50,560

Audi has revealed the latest version of its A6 saloon, with a major redesign that nods to past models while adding new tech and improved aerodynamics.

This sixth-generation version is more streamlined than ever, with a drag coefficient of just 0.23 – making it the most aerodynamic petrol or diesel Audi in production. One key change is the curved rear end, inspired by the Mk2 ‘C5’ A6. To achieve this shape, Audi used steel for the bootlid instead of aluminium, as it’s easier to mould.

The new saloon arrives shortly after the A6 Avant estate model and was originally set to be renamed A7 before Audi revised its naming approach. While the Avant is more popular in Europe and North America, the A6 saloon has a wider global appeal – especially in South Korea, which is now its biggest market.

Buyers can choose between a turbocharged petrol or diesel engine. Petrol models are badged TFSI, while diesels are marked TDI. Both engines are 2.0-litre, four-cylinder units with 201bhp. The petrol produces 251lb ft of torque, and the diesel offers 295lb ft. All versions come with an automatic gearbox, and the diesel can be upgraded with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive. The diesel also features mild-hybrid tech that allows limited electric-only driving when pulling away or cruising.

On the outside, the new A6 saloon has a much bolder look. The front grille, bonnet and badge layout have been refreshed in a style similar to the E-tron GT. Overall, the car is bulkier and sportier than before.

Inside, it features Audi’s latest three-screen infotainment setup, shared with the new A6 Avant and Q5. It also includes a clever sunroof that changes from translucent to clear with the push of a button. Boot space stands at 492 litres, slightly less than the Avant’s 503 litres, and plug-in hybrid models will have a smaller 452-litre boot.

Prices start at £50,560, with top-spec models costing up to £65,830. Deliveries are expected to begin in the coming months.
