Rapper Eminem treat for sacked car workers

Laid off car workers fly to Hollywood

Rapper Eminem and US star Jimmy Kimmel are flying in 200 jobless Detroit car workers to watch the TV host's Hollywood show. Speaking through a publicist, Eminem, who went to high school in Detroit, said: “everyone forgets about the people that have lost their jobs without getting big cash payouts after dedicating themselves to the auto industry.

Eminem is performing on Kimmel's show to promote his new album Relapse, the first in more than four years. The car workers, along with a guest, will also be treated to a private concert in Detroit by the Grammy-winning rapper.

Network ABC said in a statement: "The auto workers, many of whom live and work in the Detroit area and are affected by the auto industry crisis, will come to Los Angeles to enjoy a rare talk and musical performance by Eminem."

Michigan has the highest unemployment rate of any US state at 12.6 per cent, primarily due to the massive job lay-offs by struggling car manufacturers. In Detroit alone, it's 22 per cent, almost three times the national average.
