The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) has recently revealed the top UK areas for uninsured driving, with neighbourhoods in the West Midlands dominating the list. London, Greater Manchester, and North Tyneside are also hotspots for uninsured drivers.
Uninsured or hit-and-run incidents occur on average every 20 minutes in the UK, often leading to life-changing injuries for victims. This week, MIB’s Operation Drive Insured campaign teams up with UK police forces to crack down on uninsured drivers, with road policing units running additional checks in high-risk areas.
According to MIB data, here are the UK’s top 15 postal hotspots for uninsured drivers:
1. B11, Birmingham
2. B21, Birmingham
3. DA17, Bexley
4. WV2, Wolverhampton
5. NE29, North Tyneside
6. HP12, Buckinghamshire
7. B18, Birmingham
8. SK1, Stockport
9. B8, Birmingham
10. WS4, Walsall
11. CV7, Solihull

In 2023 alone, nearly 115,000 uninsured drivers have had their vehicles seized, with many vehicles ending up crushed. These drivers face fines, six penalty points, and even court appearances that could lead to unlimited fines and driving bans. The MIB estimates that uninsured and hit-and-run drivers cost the UK economy nearly £2.4 billion annually.
