The BMW X5 is the car most ‘school run’ parents would rather be driving according to a new survey. Six hundred parents took part in the poll naming the SUV as the vehicle that turns them green with envy when they see other parents behind the wheel.
Despite the reputation of being a ‘gas guzzler’ the most efficient BMW X5 returns 38mpg. The 402bhp 50i petrol is great if you've got money to burn, but if you live in the real world, you'll want one of the two diesels. The 241bhp 30d is the cheapest version, it's plenty quick enough and running costs are reasonable. If you can afford to buy it, though, the 302bhp 40d is even lovelier, and it's affordable to run.
Options include parking cameras at the front and rear and in the mirror housings, foglamps that shine around corners and a head-up display of speed and navigation information. The M Sport model is available with sports add-ons such as unique alloy wheels, tweaked suspension and special seats.
Prices for the BMW X5 start at £45,005 rising to £80,795
