Top 10 cars set to go extinct in the UK: is your favourite on the list?

A new study has identified the top ten cars likely to "go extinct" in the UK, with the Hyundai Coupe expected to disappear first. The research, carried out by car parts marketplace Ovoko, analysed data from YouGov on popular petrol and diesel models, calculating the rate at which they're declining based on registration numbers.

Rank Model Extinction Date
1 Hyundai Coupe August 28, 2026
2 Renault Megane July 7, 2029
3 Ford Mondeo May 24, 2033
4 Renault Scenic January 13, 2034
5 Ford Ka February 18, 2035
6 Toyota Avensis August 19, 2037
7 Audi A2 February 28, 2046
8 Kia Carens January 10, 2049
9 Mazda 6 April 18, 2049
10 Jeep Cherokee June 3, 2050

The Hyundai Coupe is predicted to have nearly zero registrations by August 2026, making it the fastest-declining model. Following closely is the Renault Megane, expected to vanish by July 2029, and the Ford Mondeo, with a "death date" of May 2033. Other models, like the Renault Scenic and Ford Ka, are also nearing extinction, with their decline projected to hit zero registrations by the mid-2030s.

As the automotive world shifts to electric vehicles, many of these once-iconic petrol and diesel cars are slowly fading away. Stricter emissions rules and growing demand for eco-friendly options are pushing traditional cars to the brink."Top 10 Cars Set to Go Extinct in the UK: Is Your Favorite on the List?"

The research predicts extinction dates based on how quickly the registrations of these cars are dropping. Ovoko defined a model as "extinct" once registrations fell below 15% of its peak. This study looked exclusively at petrol and diesel models, leaving electric vehicles out of the equation.
