The Volkswagen Golf remains Europe’s best selling car ahead of the smaller VW Polo and Ford Fiesta with 37,847 sold in the month of July.
The new Ford Focus is fourth, followed by the Renault Clio, Vauxhall/Opel Astra, Vauxhall/Opel Corsa and VW Passat. Renaults Megane and Peugeot 207 complete the top ten.
Standard equipment includes air conditioning, a CD stereo system and body-coloured exterior trim. The Volkswagen Golf also features class-leading levels of safety with ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and seven airbags, including for the first time a knee airbag, all as standard.
The new entry level Volkswagen Golf model the Volkswagen Golf Twist is available in a three or five door, it is fitted with a 1.4 litre engine and is capable of 0-62mph in 13.9 seconds and has a top speed of 107mph. Prices start at £12,995.
