Chery to Launch New UK Brand ‘Lepas’ Aimed at Younger SUV Buyers

Chery, the Chinese carmaker behind Jaecoo and Omoda, is set to introduce a third brand in the UK called Lepas, with a focus on affordable SUVs that rival the Dacia Duster. The first models could arrive as early as later this year.

Chery is already the world’s largest car exporter and has seen strong early results in the UK, selling over 10,000 vehicles since Jaecoo and Omoda launched last year. While those brands offer mid-range, larger SUVs, Lepas will take a more budget-friendly approach, aimed at attracting younger buyers.

According to Car Dealer, the new range will be based on existing models from Chery’s Tiggo line-up, with Lepas rebadging SUVs already built for markets like South Africa and Australia. The first model expected in the UK is the Lepas L8, derived from the Tiggo 8 Pro, followed by the smaller 4 Pro—roughly the same size as a Dacia Duster.

The 4 Pro is currently available in right-hand-drive form in several global markets and is likely to lead the UK launch. It’s offered with either a 1.5-litre petrol engine or a turbocharged version. Given UK emissions standards, the turbo variant is expected to be the one offered here.

While prices in Australia start at around £13,000, UK buyers should expect a higher price due to rebadging, local taxes, and import fees. However, Lepas will still aim to undercut rivals on price—just as Jaecoo and Omoda have done.

A spokesperson for Lepas confirmed at the Shanghai motor show that while details aren’t yet public, expansion plans for the UK are underway and more information will be shared in the near future. Sources say UK dealers are already being approached to join the brand’s network ahead of the launch.
