Volvo’s new EX60 is here to crush range anxiety with 503 miles per charge, futuristic design, and ultra-fast 400kW charging.

Volvo’s EX60 takes the lead as the UK’s longest-range electric car

Volvo has confirmed that the upcoming EX60 electric SUV will deliver an impressive 503 miles of range on a single charge - making it the longest-range EV you’ll be able to buy in the UK.

That’s partly down to its large 106kWh battery pack, but it’s also thanks to improved efficiency over rivals like the BMW iX3, which manages 500 miles from a slightly bigger 108.7kWh unit. To put it in perspective, the EX60 could make it from London to Dundee without stopping, or from Paris to Amsterdam on one charge.

When you do need to top up, it’ll handle ultra-fast charging of up to 400kW, adding roughly 211 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Volvo will officially reveal the EX60 on 21 January, describing it as a “no-compromise electric car” that will form a central part of its next-generation line-up. The design looks sleek and aerodynamic, with a lower bonnet and those trademark ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlights, similar to the bigger EX90.

Built on Volvo’s brand-new SPA3 platform, which replaces the one used by the EX90 and ES90 saloon, the EX60 is being positioned as a major leap forward. The new platform is built entirely around EVs, allowing Volvo to scale it across different model sizes, from compact crossovers to full-size SUVs, and support multiple battery configurations.

It’s also packed with tech. The EX60 will feature Volvo’s latest software-driven architecture with full over-the-air update capability, meaning its features and performance can evolve long after you buy it. Anders Bell, Volvo’s head of engineering, said the SPA3 is “100% electric and 100% Volvo Cars,” noting that everything has been reengineered from the ground up without the limits of petrol-driven design.

This single tech ecosystem, much like Apple’s approach, will connect every new Volvo model through the Volvo Cloud, improving safety, software integration, and development speed.

The EX60 will also introduce megacasting production for the first time in a Volvo, a process that creates large vehicle sections from a single piece of metal. This innovation, alongside SPA3’s modular design, is expected to cut production costs and boost efficiency.

When it launches, Volvo’s European EV range will include the EX30, EC40, EX40, EX60, ES90, and EX90, while the EM90 MPV is destined for China.
