Prices for used electric cars have dropped quite significantly in recent months, as the supply of new EVs massively improves and sends values down.
It means that there has never been a better time to buy a used electric car, with some terrific deals available, and significant savings on original list prices. Here we’re looking at the best used electric cars that boast long ranges, with all models here boasting more than a claimed 250 miles from a charge.
Hyundai Kona Electric
The Hyundai Kona Electric was a game-charging EV when it was introduced in 2018, being the first truly long-range model that was still fairly affordable. This funky crossover was generously equipped and got a pleasant interior finish as well.
Coming equipped with a 64kWh battery, the Kona boasted an impressive claimed range of up to 300 miles, and Hyundais are known to have quite accurate ranges compared to some competitors. Used models are exceptional value for money too, with a three-year-old example available from just £17,000.

Tesla Model S
The Tesla Model S will undoubtedly go down as one of the most important electric cars of all time. Not only did it help to establish this firm’s dominance of the EV world, but it showed it was possible to have a great range, with most versions managing 300 miles to a charge.
The Model S can also access the Tesla Supercharger network – it’s even free for some of the earlier examples when it was offered as an incentive. Boasting loads of technology and impressive performance, with a used Model S now available for around £20,000, it seems like an absolute steal.

Volkswagen ID.3
The ID.3 was Volkswagen’s first bespoke EV and helped to influence a whole line-up of electric models from Volkswagen and the wider group. There’s a lot to like about this EV, from its eye-catching styling to a tech-laden interior.
Even the standard models, featuring a 58kWh battery, are able to manage a claimed range of more than 250 miles, though a larger 77kWh battery is available, albeit quite rare to find. A used Volkswagen ID.3 is now available for around £21,000, which is a significant saving on the list price.

Kia e-Niro
Kia has established itself as a key player in the electric car field, and the model to really get it noticed was the e-Niro, now renamed to the Niro EV. Introduced in 2019, this Kia shares the same 64kWh battery with the Hyundai Kona Electric and manages a realistic claimed range of 282 miles.
This Kia is roomier than its Hyundai twin as well, while comes with a long list of standard equipment. Kia’s seven-year warranty is a big bonus too. A three-year-old e-Niro is now available for around £21,000.
Jaguar I-Pace
If you’re looking for something a bit more upmarket, but no more expensive than the other models we’ve mentioned so far, it’s worth taking a look at the Jaguar I-Pace. Introduced in 2018, it was one of the first electric SUVs, and because Jaguar hasn’t made any real changes to it in that time, used versions are a far more attractive buy than brand-new models.
In fact, you can pick up a three-year-old I-Pace for £25,000 – a huge saving on the list price, which is now around £70,000. A claimed 298-mile range and high-quality interior make this Jaguar a great used buy.

MG4
MG has quickly become one of the go-to brands for those looking for affordable used electric cars, with models such as the ZS EV crossover and MG5 estate car. But its most recent entry – the MG4 – is the model that’s really getting this firm noticed.
Boasting a fantastic electric range – the ‘Long Range’ models can manage a claimed 281 miles from a charge – with smart styling and generous equipment, it’s deserving of all the success it’s getting. A one-year-old model can now be bought for around £25,000.
Tesla Model 3
While it was Tesla’s Model S that got this EV brand noticed, it was the Model 3 that helped Tesla to become the success it is today. This electric saloon was one of the most popular new cars for a time and is now a great used buy.
All models can manage more than 250 miles from a charge, but it’s the Long Range to go for where maximum range is concerned, with Tesla claiming 374 miles from a charge. A 2020 example can now be bought for around £23,000, too.
