Hyundai is taking on the Kia PV5 and Ford E-Tourneo Custom with an electric version of its bold Staria MPV - and it’s officially on the way to the UK.
The Staria first arrived in 2021 as a futuristic, van-like people mover built on the same platform as the Santa Fe SUV. Up until now, Europe only got diesel versions, but Hyundai’s finally dropped an EV powertrain and confirmed plans to bring it across the Channel.
Revealed at the Brussels motor show, the Staria Electric is a seriously big unit — 5255mm long, 1990mm tall, and with room for seven or nine passengers. That makes it Hyundai’s largest electric vehicle yet. It’s aimed at big families, private shuttles, and anyone who lives life on the go.
Power comes from an 84kWh battery feeding a 216bhp front-mounted motor, giving an expected range of around 249 miles. Hyundai hasn’t shared a 0–62mph time yet (around eight seconds seems likely), but it can tow up to two tonnes and top out at 114mph.
The real headline is the charging tech. Despite being built on an adapted ICE platform, it runs on 800V architecture - the same cutting-edge setup found in Hyundai’s latest EVs. That means a 10–80% charge in about 20 minutes, pulling an average of 180kW.
Looks-wise, it’s nearly identical to the facelifted diesel model, with its massive windows, sliding doors, wraparound LED light bar, and that signature spaceship vibe. Inside, you get the usual Hyundai quality: twin 12.3-inch screens, plenty of physical buttons, and a column-mounted gear selector to free up front space. Suspension and soundproofing have been upgraded, too, for a smoother, quieter ride.
Hyundai will roll out two versions in Europe later this year, the high-end seven-seat Luxury model and the larger four-row Wagon, though the exact UK lineup hasn’t been confirmed yet.
