Boxy electric SUV follows the Cyberster roadster as MG expands its Cyber range

New MG Cyber X Unveiled at Shanghai Motor Show

MG has unveiled the Cyber X at the Shanghai motor show, introducing a bold, boxy electric SUV designed to appeal to style-conscious, lifestyle-focused buyers. This is the second model in MG’s Cyber line-up, which launched last year with the Cyberster convertible.

Distinctive in design, the Cyber X stands out with its upright and rugged shape, illuminated MG badges, pop-up daytime running lights, and full-width LED light bars at the front and rear. It’s expected to rival models like the new Smart #5.

The Cyber brand has been created specifically to attract younger buyers, with China as its primary market for now. However, MG has confirmed global ambitions for the sub-brand—evidenced by the UK launch of the Cyberster.

MG plans to introduce eight new models across its sports car, saloon, and SUV segments over the next two years. The Cyber X will be one of the first to use SAIC’s new E3 electric platform—a next-generation, fully electric vehicle architecture. This system-level platform is built to support a wide variety of vehicles, from compact cars to large SUVs and performance models, with flexible drivetrain options.

A key innovation is the use of CTB (cell-to-body) technology, where the battery structure is integrated into the body of the vehicle. This helps improve overall rigidity, reduces weight, and boosts efficiency.

The Cyber X will also be one of the first MGs to feature the new Zebra 3.0 operating system, offering enhanced voice control and improved connectivity. It will run on Horizon Robotics’ advanced J6 chip, enabling smart features such as driver monitoring, improved navigation, and semi-autonomous driving functions.

Full technical specifications, including drivetrain and battery details, have yet to be announced.
